Using basic knowledge and skills we’d learned in Illustrator to create a movie poster using minimal elements. We were allowed to choose which movie we promoted.
Process:
I loved this assignment. The movie Encanto had just come out and my kids were watching it all the time. It inspired not just one idea for, but three.
Poster “Door”:
The background is used to look like the door that led to the main characters bedrooms which reflected their powers. The silhouette is of main character Mirabel.
Poster “Candle”:
Feeling inspired by the predominant swirl “magic” element from the door poster, I wanted to focus on the candle itself, which is also a big element in the film as it never burns out…or does it? This was my favorite one personally, but the amount of details took it away from the “minimalist” idea that was the project goal.
Poster “Vision”:
We don’t talk about Bruno or his visions, except for this poster. The vision poster is meant to represent one of Bruno’s visions that etch into a green glass plate once he’s had them.
Butterflies:
The butterflies are featured throughout the movie, mostly on Mirabel’s dress so I felt they were an important asset to add.
