Working from a couple old projects I’ve done, I took the bear from my Walk Cycle Animation and the background from my Animated Character and created a new concept which still features a “cycle” which was the main objective.
Step 1: Adobe Illustrator
Even though I already had the character done, I needed to create the bike he would ride on. I would have preferred to texturize the illustration in Photoshop, but due to time restrictions it wasn’t possible for this assignment.
Step 2: After Effects
I started the animation process by first composing the bike so that the rim spokes and peddles would spin while the bear peddled through the woods. This gave me the cycle template for the character to follow. In a new composition I brought in the other illustrator layers and began making the bear interact with the scene so he would appear to ride the bike.
The foreground and background are separate layers which allows them to move at different speeds to give the animation that extra feeling of depth.
